Speech Therapy
We look at the quality of a child’s speech/language for example, their pronunciation and articulation, their ability to communicate their needs, their ability to chew and swallow food properly, and their families concerns. Speech Therapists are concerned with helping children reach their full developmental potential and realizing their full range of sounds and communication abilities to improve their quality of life.
As Speech Therapists specializing in Pediatrics, we assess and treat all areas of speech & language development. Some of these areas include:
- Receptive Language
- Expressive Language
- Apraxia of Speech
- Swallowing
- Food Aversion
- Articulation and Phonology
- Oral Motor
- Pragmatic/Social Language
- Memory
- Cognition
- Auditory Processing
- Fluency
Additionally, staff specializations include:
- Neuro-develomental treatment
- PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets)
- NOMAS (Neonatal Oral-Motor Assessment Scale)
- Hanen
- Auditory based care
- Lindamood-Bell
- Beckman Oral Motor
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices (AAC)
Children benefit the most from communication and feeding therapy when these problems are identified early. Youngsters who have feeding problems often have communication problems after infancy, because many of the mouth and airway structures used to feed and swallow are also involved in talking. Also, children with speech-language problems are at risk for developing reading problems. If you have any questions about your child’s speech or feeding skills or if you think your child has difficulties understanding language, ask your child’s doctor for a referral to Progressive Pediatric Therapy.
